DEF CON 22 - Day 4

This was the last day DEF CON. I was only able to attend on presentation that didn't include things like closing ceremonies or contest winners.

NSA Playset: PCIe

This talk was about getting Direct Memory Access (DMA) from a PCIe device. They then used this device in a Thunderbolt to PCIe adapter. This was a really cool implementation because they then used the capabilities of thunderbolt to have two "thunderbolt" devices over the same cable/port. This second device was plugging into the projector over VGA. They were then able to disguise the cable to look like it was the standard DP to VGA adapter that then went to the display but there was a hidden device between the computer and the projector. This device then allowed for direct access to the first 4GB of memory.
